Sandra (Sandy) Leigh Fearns (Egger), 91, of Sun City SC, passed away on December 3, 2024 surrounded by family. She was born on July 9, 1933 in New York City. She was the daughter of Butch and Ella Egger (Muller). Sandra spent her early years growing up on her family's farm in Pennsylvania. It is here where her lifelong love for animals began.
Sandy was married to William (Bill) Fearns, NYC & Bluffton SC for 50 years. They lived for many years in Westwood NJ and their home there was always a warm hub of family parties and celebrations throughout the years. Sandy and Bill loved hosting family and friends in their home. They eventually left New Jersey and moved down to Sun City in Bluffton SC in 2001. Here, they made many new friends and took part in many local clubs and organizations.
Sandy worked for many years for Traveler’s Insurance Company before her retirement. Sandy had many other interests and pursuits that kept her busy in her retirement. Sandy was an animal lover and had many pets throughout her life. She also volunteered as a docent at the Paramus Park Zoo. She spent her time there volunteering as a docent and teacher. At the zoo, Sandy enjoyed caring for the animals and sharing her love of animals with zoo visitors. She especially enjoyed working with children and teaching them all about zoo animals.
Sandy also dedicated her time to making people smile and laugh. She did this by becoming her alter-ego Feathers the Clown. Sandy helped start a Clown Circle in Bergen County NJ. Sandy also became a Magician upon moving to South Carolina and she became president of the Magic Ring of Hilton Head. She enjoyed entertaining people and making them smile.
Sandy is predeceased by her siblings Fred Egger (Elanor), Arline, Debos and her son Peter. Sandy is survived by her beloved Bill, son Will (Lynne), and her 6 grandchildren; Westley Fearns (Marysol) , Eileen Fearns (Adrian), Colin Fearns (Brock), Liam Fearns, Natalie Fearns, and William-Tripp Fearns. She is also a beloved Great-Grandmother to Jacob, Jackson, and Leonardo. Sandy was also a beloved Sister, Sister-in-Law, Aunt, and friend. Her kindness and spirit touched everyone she encountered and she will be greatly missed by all.
A Memorial service will be held on Monday, January 6, 2025 at Sauls Funeral Home in Bluffton SC at 11:00 am. It will be followed by a Memorial at the National Cemetery in Beaufort, SC.
