Sandra Johns Lundberg

Bluffton, SC – Sandra Johns Lundberg, 78, died on June 18, 2017, in Bluffton, SC. She was born July 20, 1938 in Norfolk, Virginia to the late Nicholas C. Johns and Ann Lentile Johns. She was also preceded in death by her brother Nicholas Lanier Johns. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Robert B. Lundberg; sons, Christopher Johns Lundberg (Dena) of Clinton, Mississippi and Neil Robert Lundberg (Bertine) of Newnan, Georgia. She was blessed with two grandchildren, Owen Reilly Lundberg and Nolan Alexander Lundberg of Clinton, Mississippi. She was a graduate of Longwood College, Farmville, Virginia and received her master’s degree from Auburn University of Montgomery (AUM), Montgomery, Alabama. Her studies allowed her to fulfill her dream to teach elementary education. She used these skills in the Virginia Beach, Virginia; the Franklin, Virginia; and the Montgomery, Alabama school systems. She also worked as an Adjunct Professor at AUM. She volunteered with the Cub Scout Program of the Boy Scouts of America as well as the school Parent Teachers Associations as her sons were growing up. She grew roses for over forty years and enjoyed competing in American Rose Society Rose sanctioned shows on Local, District, and National Levels. Her successes included over 25 National Challenge Class wins. She was recognized on the National Level by winning the Guy Blake Hedrick Award for Rose Exhibiting Excellence, and on the District Level by being awarded the Silver Metal Honor and the Outstanding Judge’s Award and on the local level the Bronze Honor Metal Honor by three local rose societies. She served on the National Exhibitors Committee, and the National Miniature Committee on the National Level. She was Chairman of the Carolina Judging Committee 8 years and served as the Carolina District Newsletter Editor for eleven years. She has served as President of the Savannah Rose Society, the Charleston Lowcountry Rose Society and the South Carolina Rose Society. The family would like to extend their thanks to the Doctors and nursing staff at the Coastal Carolina Hospital and AGAPE Hospice of the Lowcountry. In lieu of flowers please consider donations to the American Rose Society, or the Bluffton United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Rd., Bluffton. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, June 22, 2017 at Beaufort National Cemetery, Beaufort with a Funeral Memorial Service at 11:30 am, Thursday, June 22, 2017 at Bluffton United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 368, Bluffton SC, 29910.
