Sarah Magdalene (Benton) Woods

Sarah Magdalene Benton Woods, 78 of Hardeeville, passed away August 12, 2024, after a short illness. Magdalene was born in Ridgeland S.C. to Lester and Lillian Benton. As was common in that era, her education was short-lived so she could help care for her younger siblings and household. She married the love of her life, Leon, in 1968 and together they raised 3 children. She enjoyed the simple things in life. Among her favorites were watching vintage cartoons and shows, putting together jigsaw puzzles and playing cards. She also enjoyed being on the river fishing and shrimping.  She loved her family dearly and would often tell them, multiple times within a short time span just how much she loved them, as we all loved her.

She is predeceased by her husband and her parents as mentioned above as well as siblings, Adolph, Martha, Harvey and John. She leaves behind 3 children: Leon Woods Jr of Hardeeville, Suzie Johnson (Scott) of Hardeeville and Laurie Black (Matt) of Port Wentworth. Four Grandchildren: Sarah Bolin (Robzy) of Simpsonville S.C., Christopher Woods-Hilton (Savannah) of Bishopville S.C, Jacob Black and Kyleigh Black. One Great-Grandchild: Ridley Woods-Hilton. Two Sisters, Evelyn Crum of Pooler, Rebecca Spahn of Manhattan NY, and one brother, Albert Benton of Hardeeville and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.

Visitation will be held 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm, Wednesday, August 14, 2024 at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Rd, Bluffton. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, August 15, 2024 at the funeral home with Bro Matt Black officiating. Interment will follow at Beaufort National Cemetery.
