Sarah Elizabeth "Betty" Woods

Sarah Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Woods, wife of the late Robert A. ‘Bobby’ Woods, passed away visiting at the home of her daughter, Carol, in Hickory, NC, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Beaufort, SC, on January 16, 1927, Betty was the daughter of Edward Frazier and Rachel Caroline McKenzie Langford. Betty worked at Bank of Ridgeland for many years before she moved to Hilton Head Island, SC in 1956. She then began working with her husband, Bobby, in their home building business. After retiring she became a forever homemaker. She enjoyed sewing and cooking for her family and was known for her specialty, Bumpsie's Pound Cake.  She was a member of Sea Island Chapel on Hilton Head Island and a charter member at First Baptist Church of Hilton Head, where she also helped build the first church occupied by First Baptist. Betty was an accomplished pianist and organist, playing in several local churches including Ridgeland Baptist, First Baptist of Hilton Head, First Baptist of Bluffton, and North Island Baptist Church.

Betty’s survivors include her sons, Ervin ‘Sonny’ Langford (RaVae); Robert A. Woods, Jr. (Nadine); daughters, Carol W. Church (Mike), Elizabeth ‘Beth’ Woods (Len); grandchildren, Paul Hawkes (Paula), Shannon Epling (Shaun), Ali McCoy (Ben), Jesse Skipper, Lauren Woods, Brian Woods: great grandchildren Silja Crutchfield (Lucas), Gage Wellman (Emily), Gabriel Wellman, Caroline Hawkes, Carter Hawkes, Kennedy McCoy and Cameron McCoy and Great-great grandchildren, Noah Crutchfield, Emilee Crutchfield, Preston Crutchfield, Isla Crutchfield and Neveah Bush as well as many nieces and nephews.  Betty is predeceased by her parents, Edward Frazier and Rachel McKenzie Langford; sister, Frances L. Johnson; and brother, Elmo Langford.

The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 am, Saturday, July 27, 2024 at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Rd., Bluffton with a Celebration of Life to follow at 11:00 am at the funeral home.

Betty’s great granddaughter, Silja Crutchfield, and her family are forever in our gratitude for the loving care of their "Nina" during the past 8 years. Thank you to Agape Hospice of South Carolina and the Hospice Care Team in Hickory, NC and a special thank you to Ms. Janet with Senior Helpers for all the love and care you provided.
