Scott Arthur Norton

May 17, 1949 — February 26, 2017

Scott passed away unexpectedly, yet peacefully with family at his side on February 26 in Charleston, SC. We may have lost Scott unexpectedly, but his passion for life, his wife Kathleen, his children, grandchildren, travel, photography, cooking and sports lives on in all of us who were blessed to have been a part of his life. Scott drew upon his time at South Portland High School, Bentley College, Casco Bay College & University of Maine with a focus on Accounting, Finance and Computer Sciences to begin his life adventures at WPOR in a sales role and progressed to become the general manager, which ignited his passion for a career in broadcasting. His broadcasting travels included WHAV/WLYFT Haverhill, MA; RJAN/WHOK Milwaukee/Racine, WI; WJYR/WKZO Myrtle Beach, SC; MMFX/WARQ Columbia, SC & Cumulus Broadcasting, Savannah, GA. He twice broke away from broadcasting directly to run his own companies, Info-Mark Advertising & Norton Marketing Group. Most recently, “Mr. Scott” worked at Hargray Communications, where he spoke often and fondly of all those with whom he shared his days. His passion may have been broadcasting, but his first love was his family, followed closely by the Red Sox & the Dallas Cowboys, maybe, not in that order. Scott and his wife Kathleen, whom he met while in Racine, were able to spend 24 wonderful years together, joining in marriage in 2003. Scott and Kathleen were a cornerstone of the east coast family architecture once they settled in South Carolina. Scott loved the coast whether it was near estuaries, rivers or beaches, a vestige of growing up in Maine and especially having Casco Bay, the Portland Head Light and Higgins Beach in his backyard. Scott especially enjoyed spending time with his wife and children at Nana Norton’s cottage at Brandy Pond in Naples, Maine. Additionally, Scott and Kathleen found adventure and self-expression with photography in their continental and global travel which they generously shared with family. Scott was passionate about many things including photography, gourmet cooking and word games, but his time with family was his true passion. Whether playing hearts with daughters Kelly & Alana; meaningful conversations with Cortney; jokingly bantering with son Casey or sharing his passion for sports, particularly the Red Sox, with Erik. Erik learned his ability to mercilessly taunt his father about the Cowboys' shortcomings naturally, as relentlessly teasing his family was the center of Scott’s relationship with his siblings from his early years. Scott is survived by his wife, Kathleen Pruitt Norton; a son, Erik Scott Norton (and his wife Melissa Kuroda Norton) of Duxbury, MA; daughters Kelly Ann Norton (and her husband Gerard Geffrard) and Alana Tiffany Norton, both of Manchester, NH; Cortney Elizabeth Pruitt (and her husband Nicholas Gibbons of Bluffton, SC) and Casey Jordan Pruitt of Racine, WI; granddaughters Hannah Meiko Norton and Samantha Nicole Norton; grandsons Mason Ryder Geffrard and Jackson Carter Gibbons; brother Robert L. Norton (and his wife Sheryl Norton) of Gainesville, FL; sister Teresa Norton Mattison of Cape Elizabeth, ME, and several nieces, nephews and family throughout the US and abroad. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
