Sean David Maxwell, 26, of Bluffton, died September 1, 2013 in Bluffton.
He was born on October 6, 1986 in Denville, New Jersey to Kelly McCormick Ryden and the late David Maxwell.
He was known for being disciplined, detail-oriented, always willing to learn and being physically and mentally strong.
He served in the Republic of Korea (2011-2012), Iraq Operation Iraqi Freedom & Operation New Dawn (2010-2011) and was a Tank Commander.
He was awarded the US Army Commendation Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, United States Army Achievement Medal x2.
He attended the United States Army Warrior Leadership Class, Emergency Medical Tech and United Master Driver Certification.
He is survived by his mother and step father, Joseph and Kelly Ryden of Bluffton; brother Matthew Maxwell (Marleigh) of Bluffton; sisters Brianna Ryden of Bluffton and Samantha Maxwell of Ashley, PA; maternal Grandmother Judy McCormick of Bluffton; paternal grandparents Bruce and Blanche Maxwell of South Port, NC; paternal grandmother Barbara Ryden of Basking Ridge, NJ; and nieces Ava and Paige Maxwell and nephew Matthew Maxwell, Jr. of Bluffton.
A celebration of life will be held at the McCormick residence at 2:00 pm, Saturday, September 7, 2013. The family requests memorial gifts be made to Ralph H. Johnson VA Hospital, 109 Bee St., Charleston, SC 29401 Attn: Social Works for PTSD.
