Sheila (Condon) Standen passed away on July 21, 2026 at the age of 91. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bill, of 63 years. She is survived by her two sons, Scott (Kelly) and Craig (Helen), six grandchildren; Ryan (Katie), Taylor (Andy), Lexie, Brynn, Hunter (Hannah) and Madeline, along with four great-grandchildren.
She was born in Albany, New York, on December 11, 1934, and then lived in Farmingdale, New York until her college years at the University of Connecticut where she was a varsity cheerleader and a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. After college she worked for CBS-TV in both New York City and Hollywood, California, along with CBS Radio in San Diego, California. Sheila met her husband, Bill, in Barcelona, Spain, in the summer of 1957 while she was traveling with a friend and Bill was on his First Class Naval Midshipman Cruise. They were then later married in California in 1958 while her husband was an officer in the US Navy. Eventually they settled in Elyria, Ohio for 35 years.
Sheila was in a position of leadership in many community and church organizations both in Elyria and on Hilton Head Island, SC, where they moved in 1996. She was especially dedicated to serving the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra; serving as chair of the League, member of the Board of Directors of the HHSO and on the board of the International Piano Competition.
Those who knew her would remember her love of family and friends, Sheila’s love of entertaining guests and her zest for life. There were always many good laughs and fun times!
A celebration of life will be held on September 26th at 1:00 pm, at All Saints Church on Hilton Head Island, SC.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra.
