Sherele Arden (Glenn) Hackbert
January 20, 1934 - January 3, 2026
Long-time Colleton River Club Member Sherele Hackbert passed away peacefully at home on January 3, 2026.
Sherele was born in Chicago, Illinois. She met her future husband, Don, when she was a child living in the same neighborhood. The two celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary on January 28th, 2025.
Sherele is survived by son Michael Hackbert (Jean) of Sun City West, AZ; daughters Ginny Hackbert of Bluffton, SC; and Judy Albright (Tom) of New Cumberland, PA. She was the proud grandmother of Matthew Hackbert, Abby Dunphy, Lauren Albright Brobeck, Jeremy Albright, Emily Albright and Shannon Albright. She was the great-grandmother to Patrick, Madison, Elianna, Emerson and Charlie. Sherele is predeceased by her husband Don, parents George and Margaret Glenn; daughter Joyce Elayne; sister Dien Kelleher and brother Jerry Glenn.
Before retiring to raise a family, she was employed as an Executive Secretary to the President of the Wurlitzer Company, manufacturer of pianos and juke boxes. Sherele and Don relocated several times throughout the U.S. before retiring to Hilton Head Island, SC in 1988. Sherele was an avid golfer until injury and illness slowed her down. She was active in the Hilton Head Island Women’s Golf Association (now LWGA) and several golf clubs in the area. She was instrumental in starting Colleton River’s participation in Lowcountry team play. Sherele had 7 holes-in-one. She and her daughter Ginny both had one on the same hole, #4 on the Colleton River Nicklaus course. In addition to golf, she enjoyed reading, solving puzzles, crocheting and loved to attend Bible study. She will truly be remembered as a very faithful person.
The family will receive friends at Sauls Funeral Home on Friday, January 16 from 4 - 6 pm. A funeral service will be held Saturday, January 17 at 10:00 am also at Sauls Funeral Home located at 90 Simmonsville Road in Bluffton.
If you would like to honor Sherele’s memory, donations would be appreciated to Hillsdale College (www.hillsdale.edu), Samaritain’s Purse (www.samaritanspurse.org) or to the charitable organization of your choice.
