Shirley Vick O'Neal, age 81 of Bluffton, SC, died December 8, 2025. Mrs. O'Neal was born in Baltimore, MD, on October 28, 1944, the daughter of the late James Edward Vick and Frances Virginia Thomason Vick. She was a graduate of Travelers Rest High School, Anderson University, and Appalachian State University, where she earned a B.A. in Psychology and M.A. in Guidance and Counseling and worked as a graduate assistant. While a student, she also was a Psychologist Aide for the New River Mental Health Center, Boone, NC. She earned an Ed.S. in School Psychology from the University of Georgia and worked as a Psychologist for Chesterfield County Schools and later for Kershaw County Schools. She ended her professional career as School Counselor and Guidance Department Chair at Camden High School. She was actively involved in the mental health associations of Chesterfield and Kershaw counties, in Cub Scouts as Cubmaster and Den Leader, in YMCA as a swim team official, in Camden Community Theatre as performer and President, and in Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church as school superintendent and adult choir member. Outside of work and civic involvement, she enjoyed snow skiing and ocean sailing with her family.

Mrs. O'Neal was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Marvin H. O’Neal, Jr. and by her sister, Margaret Ann Vick Balding. She is survived by her two sons, Marvin H. O'Neal III, Ph.D. (Amanda) of Patchogue, NY, and Eric Thomason O'Neal (Katie) of Geneva, FL; and grandchildren, Walton, Rivers, Liam, and Caroline.
