Silas Goodwin, 88, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2011 at Memorial Medical Center in Savannah, GA.He was born in Ridgeland, SC on September 05, 1922 to the late Albert Goodwin and Esther Barnwell Goodwin. He caught the train to New York at an early age. He was an Engineer with Metropolitan Hospital in New York City, NY and moved to Ridgeland after his retirement in 1981. He was a member of First Heyward Baptist Church where he was the Director of the Usher Board. He is survived by his son, Solomon McDonald of Jersey City, NJ; four daughters, Shirley (Juan) Molina of New York City, NY; Diane (Tony) Garvin of Ridgeland, SC; Linda (Tony) Machicote of Springhill, FL; Patricia Goodwin Hill of Jacksonville, FL; goddaughter, Kiasheya Grey of North Carolina; grandson, Lamar Silas (Shantell) Goodwin of El Paso, TX; fifteen grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; several cousins; faithful friend, Bernice Polite of Ridgeland, SC; nephews, Paul (Anna) Goodwin; Walter (May) Goodwin; Isaac Goodwin and Richard Goodwin; Neices, Rose Gardner (Steven) Mitchell; Josephine (H) Wright and Vergie M. Smith.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 on Saturday, August 6, 2011 at First Heyward Baptist Church with burial in Grahamville Cemetery.
