Sister Lupe Domingez Stump 86, widow of Robert Stump, passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at her home in Bluffton.
She was born in Kewanee, IL on April 20, 1927. She was the daughter of the late Leandro Domingez and Modesta Sabala.
She received her masters in social work and was a social work professor at Ball State University in Munice, Indiana. In 1983 she was the Director of Family Focus of Aurora, IL which provided service to the Hispanic population. On December 12, 1987 she became a member of The Sisters of Mercy. She was an activist for social justice and her life's passion was to help the poor and oppressed. Between 1988-1991 she was on the staff for the Eight Day Center for Justice in Chicago, IL. In 1987 she came to Hardeeville to work with the Hispanic population. She founded the Thrift store and food distribution center in Hardeeville. She worked to provide affordable housing in Hardeeville.
She is survived by her son, John Stump of Savannah, GA; two daughters, Susan Stump of Wilmette, IL and Cindy Meyer (Ken) of Crystal Lake, IL; two brothers, Leandro Domingez Jr. of Kewanee, IL and Dave Domingez of Mount Vernon, IL; one sister, Connie McKinley of Oneida, TN an one granddaughter, Courtney Meyer.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 4:00 pm, Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 23049 White Hardee Blvd., Hardeeville, SC. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at Saint Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 333 Fording Island Road, Bluffton.
