Stan Chmela, 67, died quietly at home, surrounded by his loving family on August 5, 2014, after a brief illness. Stan was a loving husband and father, a Navy Veteran stationed at Midway Island, and an automobile dealer in New York.
He was born on March 11, 1947, in Baldwin, NY, to his late parents, Stephen and Cecilia Chmela.
Stan is survived by his wife, Susan Wyckoff Chmela, of Bluffton, SC. He is also survived by his two sons, John Chmela of New York and Kevin Chmela of Savannah, Georgia. He dearly loved his two daughters-in- law, Tiffany and Kristen, and his four granddaughters: Jaclyn, Gail, Afton and Emily Chmela. He is also survived by Susan's son, Zandy Wyckoff, his wife, Michelle, and Susan's daughter, Anna Mays, and grandchildren: Charlotte, Henry, Will and Avery. His brothers were Stephen and Robert Chmela and his sister was Cecilia Dixon. He was also survived by several nieces and nephews.
While an automobile dealer in New York, he served on the UCAP Arbitration Board of the Lemon Law in the state of New York. While living in Florida, he was a consultant for Ford Motor Company and for Sea Ray boats.
He was a member of The Church of the Cross. He enjoyed spending time with family and sharing his faith through ministry outreach.
A gathering for family and friends to celebrate Stan's life will be held on Saturday, August 23, between 2:00-5:00 PM, at their home at 8 Star Flower Drive in Sun City.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to be made to God's Goods Thrift Shop, 53 Persimmon Street in Bluffton or Island Hospice Foundation, 3 West Perry Street, Savannah, Ga. 31401.
