Stanley Jerome Gefen of Hilton Head, SC, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones. He was 94 years old.
Stan was born in Boston, MA. He served as a cryptographer in the United States Fareast Command during the Korean War and then earned his degree in pharmacy from Northeastern University. Soon thereafter, in 1959, he married the love of his life, Sheila. In addition to helping others as a pharmacist for over 30 years, Stan’s life was centered around his wife and two children, Lisa and Howard.
Throughout his life, Stan touched the hearts of all who knew him with his warmth, generosity, and infectious smile. His quiet strength and graceful humility defined him, and he had a natural gift for making everyone feel welcome. He was, in every way, a true gentleman.
Upon his retirement, Stan and Sheila moved to the Hilton Head communities of Sun City and then to TidePointe, where they built lasting friendships.
Stan was an avid golfer, even getting a hole in one, not once, but twice. He found joy in music, participating in various temple choirs and with the Ebbtides at TidePointe. His dedication to both his family and his community made him a beloved figure, known for his kind spirit and unwavering support of those around him. He was also involved in the community, serving for four years on the board of directors at the historic Congregation Mickve Israel in Savannah, Georgia.
A man of great integrity and generosity, Stan’s legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew him. Stan leaves behind his loving wife of 66 years, Shelia Gefen; his devoted children, Lisa Gefen Sicilian and her husband John, and Howard Gefen and his wife Pauline; and his cherished grandson, Jackson.
A private service was held for the immediate family. Donations in Stan’s honor may be made to the Macular Degeneration Society (https://macularhope.org/).
We love you, Stan, and we will miss you always.
