Sue McEachern McIntire, age 69, of Bluffton, SC passed away peacefully on Friday Feb 12, 2016 at The Hospice Center of Charleston with her son and daughter-in-law by her side. She was born in Wellsville (Allegany County), NY, and was the daughter of the late Loyd Richard and Nancy Duke McEachern. She spent her early years in Greenville, SC and was a graduate of Greenville High School c/o 1964. She earned her B.A. in History from Erskine College in 1968, and proceeded to work as a History Teacher in Winnsboro, SC. She later moved to Columbia, SC and then to Hilton Head, SC where she began her career in banking eventually retiring as Senior Vice President of Palmetto State Bank in Bluffton, SC. After retirement, she worked as a realtor with May River Realty. Her community activities included being on the Board of Directors of the May River Theater and attending the Church of the Cross in Bluffton. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, dining at her favorite local spots, spending quality time with her closest friends, and all of the joys of the May River. Although Sue left us too soon, we will cherish the many memories we have of her fun-loving spirit and radiant beauty that would brighten up any room. She is best described as smart, outgoing, classy, witty, as well as independent and fiercely strong even in her final days. She was blessed with family and numerous life-long friends. She is survived by the “light of her life”, her son, Thomas Stewart Ketchin and his wife Nikki Perrin Ketchin (Mount Pleasant, SC); as well as her four cherished grandchildren who fondly call her “SuSu”, Thomas McMaster Ketchin (Mac), Perrin Stewart Ketchin, Drake Elliott Ketchin, and Lila Ann Ketchin. She is also survived by her sisters; Leslie Davis McEachern (Glen Gardner, NJ), Lindsay McEachern Hicks (University Park, MD) her brothers, Stephen Duke McEachern (Charlotte, NC) and John Stewart McEachern (Beaufort, SC); and nieces/ nephews ; Kate McEachern, Greg McEachern , Austin Hicks, and Patch Hicks. A memorial service will be held Monday Feb 22, 2016 at 1PM at Sauls Funeral Home in Bluffton, SC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bluffton Volunteers in Medicine (www.bjvim.org) or The Hospice Center of Charleston, SC (www.hospiceofcharleston.com).
