Sue Anita (Schulz) Salmons, 91, of Moss Creek, Hilton Head, South Carolina passed away unexpectedly with friends at her bedside, in Hilton Head Hospital on Sunday, Aug 11, 2024 after a fall at her home a few days earlier.
Born on March 10, 1933 in New York City, Sue was the daughter of Hugo Schulz and Lillian (DeMoura) Schulz. In Nov of 1955, Sue married Robert Salmons, a Professor of Health & PE at Queens College in NYC. There she earned her MS degree in Exercise Science and worked locally as an exercise physiologist. After her husband retired as Professor Emeritus at Columbia, the pair moved to Hilton Head, SC, where she continued in her occupation at the cardiac rehabilitation unit of Coastal Carolina Hospital in Hardeeville, until her retirement.
She was one of the first women in the United States to perform and teach the traditional men's English Morris Dance. Sue helped to found and perform with "Ring 'O Belles", an all women's dance team. She travelled frequently to Pinewoods Dance Camp in Plymouth, MA, where she immersed herself in the joy of traditional dance, music, and song, alongside many friends who she had become quite close with over the years.
Sue was preceded in death by her dear husband Bob, who passed away in 2006. She is survived by several cousins, a very dear family friend in Iowa, a few good friends locally in the Moss Creek community, and her beloved “Suki Cat”, who misses her so.
A private service will be held in CT at a future date, where Sue will be interred alongside her husband at the Stonington Cemetery, Stonington, CT.
Sue was a beautiful person inside and out. She was strong, smart, sophisticated, wise, polite, witty, and trusting. She had a good sense of humor, she liked to laugh, she was fashionable, she enjoyed golfing, exercising, storytelling, Morris dancing, travelling, a healthy meal, scotch whiskey, classical music... and she loved her home, her good friends, her family, her cat, and living in Moss Creek. Her positive attitude, her stubborn determination, and her constant will to succeed helped propel her in life toward many proud achievements and through many happy adventures.
Take care Ms. Sue Anita... May Heaven embrace you, and may you soar with the Angels!
We will love and miss you from here.
"God Bless"
