Susan “Sue” Then Jensen, age 76, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2026, in Ridgeland, South Carolina. Born on July 28, 1949, in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, Sue led a life defined by dedication to her family and her nursing profession.
She earned her RN from the Ann May School of Nursing in Neptune, New Jersey, launching a nursing career that spanned more than four decades. Her work as a registered nurse took her across ten states and numerous hospitals, where she formed enduring friendships and made a lasting impact through her compassionate care. In 2015, she retired to Bluffton, South Carolina from Carmel, Indiana.
Sue met her husband, Jim Jensen, in 1969 in a NJ Army NCO Club, while she was a nursing student at Ann May School of Nursing and he was preparing for deployment to Vietnam. They would have celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary in June. Throughout their life together, Sue was the steady force behind each move and transition, managing both family and career with remarkable resilience.
She is survived by her husband Jim Jensen; daughter Kristen Jensen and husband William; son Jeff Jensen and wife Allison; daughter Karen Jensen and partner Stuart; sister Debbie; and grandsons Dylan and Chase Jensen. Her love for Dylan and Chase brought her immense joy.
Sue also shared a deep affection for the family’s English Springer Spaniels—Daisy, Samantha, Henry, and most recently Tucker, each one a treasured companion.
She volunteered at Gods Goods Thrift Store and tutored reading at Red Cedar Elementary School for many years and was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Bluffton. She was an “enthusiastic shopper” at Home Goods and TJ Maxx.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Janice Lance Then-RN, and Henry Clarence Then—both World War II Army veterans—and her sister Sharon Then Young-RN.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 20th from 11:00am-1:00pm followed by a Celebration of Life at 1:00pm at Chapman Funerals & Cremations- Blute Chapel 678 Main St. Harwich, MA. Burial will follow at Island Pond Cemetery, Harwich, MA.
May Susan's memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
