Susan K. Pierson

Susan K. Pierson (Bowers), 78, passed away peacefully at her home in Bluffton, South Carolina, on January 9, 2026.

Born on January 2, 1948, in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, Susan was raised in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. She built a life centered on love, generosity, and deep devotion to family and community.

Susan was married to the love of her life, Jesse David Pierson III, for 55 years which they spent living in many different states. Together they shared a life filled with travel, faith, and friendships. Members of the Berkeley Hall community for 23 years, Susan and Dave spent the last 10 years as permanent residents, joyfully embracing retirement and the many friendships they built.

Known to many as “Grandma Sue,” Susan had a gift for bringing people together. Her home was a place of warmth and welcome, where meals were shared, celebrations were abundant, and everyone felt like family. She was a world traveler and a lifelong learner, always curious and eager to experience new cultures and ideas. Susan generously gave of her time through volunteer and charitable work, quietly serving others with kindness.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Jean Elizabeth Bowers and Lester James Bowers; her brother, James Richard Bowers; her sister-in-law, Diana Fobian Bowers; and her brother-in-law, Dr. Richard Mauro.

In addition to her beloved husband, David, Susan is survived by her children, Jill Pietrocini and her husband Jeremy, and Jeffrey Pierson and his wife Carrie. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Joseph Pietrocini and his wife Payton, Emma Pietrocini and her fiancé Weston Lewis, Jack Pierson, and Benton Pierson.

She is also survived by her sister, Barbara Hults and her husband Richard, sister-in-law, Deborah Mauro, several nieces and nephews, and many dear friends who will miss her deeply.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 24th, at 1:00 p.m. at Church of the Cross at the Chapel, 491 Buckwalter Parkway, Bluffton, SC 29909.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cross Schools in Susan’s honor.
