Susan Safranek loved life… no matter how long the party, she always wanted 5 minutes more. Her love was so great that it necessitated the strength of a hurricane to take her from our midst and end her long battle with cancer. Susan passed at 5:00 a.m. October 8th, 2016, a loss so large that the wind howled and the sky wept as she passed.
Anyone who’s known Susan knew that she was proud to have been born in Brooklyn and met her Nathan, Mr. Wonderful, in El Paso, Texas. Although both only children, they joined to create not only a nuclear family but also a family with their community. While proud of her New York pedigree, Susan was honored to consider herself a Southerner, a city girl wrapped in a beautiful magnolia.
Unable to be bound by mediums introductions to Susan could be found in a myriad of ways: her column in Sunsations, her T.V. show City Beat, the Theatre productions, the Synagogue, a class, or even just waiting in line at Publix. No matter the medium, Susan connected with everyone she met. She had a unique talent to hone in and note the essential human connections that join us all.
A service for Susan will be held on October 15, 2016 at 9:30a at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Road, Bluffton, South Carolina 29910.
