Susanna Laurel Campbell, 93 of New York City, previously of Ridgeland, SC, passed away on September 14, 2016 at Montefiore Medical Center, Bronx, NY. Mrs. Campbell was born in Ridgeland, SC on August 8, 1923 to the late Jimmy Laurel and Rosa Belle Woodberry Laurel. She moved to New York City in 1956 and retired as Matron of the New York School Maintenance System. She was a member of the Padgett Branch Baptist Church and a member of the Church of the Immaculate Conception Baptist Church in New York City where she sang in the choir. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and housekeeping and most of all loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mrs. Campbell is survived by her daughters, Gertie Campbell of New York City and Anna C .Jones (Anthony) of Savannah, GA; seven grandchildren, Angela D. Jones of Savannah, Ga., Gary L. Campbell, Keith A. Jones, Whalen J. Campbell, Claude Stanton and Clyde Stanton, all of New York City and Christina S. English of Atlanta, GA. and eight great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, John Campbell; her brothers, Taft Laurel, Clifford Laurel, McKinley Laurel, Curtis Laurel; her sisters, Mae Laurel Woods, Gertrude L. Manker, Lucille L. Brannan, Tiney Laurel and Blanche L. Boone. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 am on Friday, September 23, 2016 until the hour of the service at Sauls Funeral Home, 310 W. Adams St. Ridgeland, SC. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, September 23, 2016 at Sauls Funeral Home with burial at 1:00 pm in the Beaufort National Cemetery, Beaufort.
