T. Edison Smith

July 28, 1930 — February 5, 2017

Mr. Thomas Edison Smith passed away peacefully at Beaufort Memorial Hospital, on Sunday, February 5, 2017, under the care of Tidewater Hospice. Born July 28, 1930, he was a son of the late Livingston O. Smith and Nancy Mixson Smith.

Edison Graduated from Grays Consolidated High School, and shortly thereafter, began a 40-year career that he truly loved, at Palmetto Electric Cooperative. He faithfully attended Pine Level Baptist Church.

Affectionately known as Mr. Ed or Granddaddy, he never met a stranger. He was a man of few words, but you knew where you stood with him. He may never have said the words “I love you” but you knew it by his actions. He always carried butterscotch or mint candies in his pocket, and if he walked toward you with a smile on his face, reaching in his pocket, you knew you were about to get a piece of that candy.

Ed is survived by his loving wife of over sixty years, Annette Smith. He is also survived by his son, Tommy Smith, of Hampton, five grandchildren, Shane Smith of Grays, SC, Jason Smith and wife Ariana of Crescent City, CA, Ginny Smith Stanley and husband Hance of Gillisonville, SC, Christine Smith of Hampton, SC, and Tasha Smith of Brunson, SC. He leaves behind six great-grands, who were the light of his life, Abby, Chloe, Shawna, and Anna-Lynn Smith, Hunter Jarrell, and Kadence Stanley. He is also survived by daughters-in-law, Linda Smith and Vickie Hiers. There are three sisters Reba O’Quinn of Jacksonville, FL, Hazel Cope and Betty Smith of Grays, SC, and best friend, Bernard Smith of Grays, SC.

Edison was predeceased by a son, Shane Smith, brothers, Aaron and Joseph, and sisters, Lucy, Geneva, Myrtle, and Veda Nell.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at Pine Level Baptist Church, with the Reverend Don Drawdy and the Reverend Tommy Kelly officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Pine Level Baptist Church Jerusalem Fund, 2009 Pine Level Church Road, Early Branch, SC, 29916.
