Thelma May Ashing

Thelma May Ashing, age 93, died Saturday, June 1, 2019 at Ridgeland Nursing Center.

Mrs. Ashing was born on March 20, 1926 in Orlando, FL, the daughter of the late Irving and Gladys Darling. She was a foster parent and homemaker. She worked as a lunch lady at Christmas Elementary School in Christmas, FL. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Ridgeland, SC and was known as “Nanny” to everyone who knew her. She enjoyed doing crafts, taking care of children, and took special care of Denise and Beverley Roberts.

Mrs. Ashing was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Leo Ashing. She is survived by her sons, Ronald Gary Ashing (Denise) of Moncks Corner, SC and Joseph Leo Ashing, Jr. (Doreen) of Summerville, SC; daughter, Cynthia A. Collins (Randy) of Ridgeland, SC; brothers, Everett, Ernest, Floyd, and Irving; sisters, Elizabeth, Emma Jane, Norma, DeeDee, and Mary Belle; grandchildren, Rhonda, Ronnie, Mara, Christopher, Shannon, Walter, and David; and several great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, June 8, 2019 at Faith Baptist Church, Ridgeland, SC.
