Thelma M. (Snodgrass) Davis

Thelma M. (Snodgrass) Davis, 92, passed away at Bloom of Bluffton on Sunday, May 14, 2017. She is now at rest after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. Thelma was the widow of Harold Davis, with whom she shared 50 years of marriage. She has three living children, David Davis and his wife Cindy of Marietta, OH, Deborah Hall and her late husband Stacy Hall of Hilton Head, SC and Brien Davis and his wife Jane of Hope, Maine. She had six grandchildren Kristen Hall of Honolulu, HI, Evan Hall of Charleston, SC, Tucker Davis of Davenport, IA and Ricci Bailey of Marietta, OH, Trevey Davis of Detroit, MI and Fletcher Davis of Boseman, MT. Two great grandchildren, Rylee Hall-Marin and Leena Davis. Thelma was born December 30, 1924 in Hazelgreen, WV. She was the second child of Grace and Trevy Snodgrass. She was preceded in death by her sisters Lenore Thompson and Wyolene Britton. She has one living sister June Zavisho of Hazelgreen, WV. Thelma grew up on a rural farm in West Virginia. After finishing high school, she traveled to Akron, OH and took a job as “Rosie the Riveter”, assembling blimps for WWII. The following year she started nursing school with the intent to serve in the war. The war ended before she finished her training. Thelma stayed in Morgantown, WV where she met her husband Harold Davis. She and Harold moved from Morgantown to Marietta, OH where they raised their family. After their children were grown, they moved to Hilton Head, SC (1980). Thelma worked as a Registered Nurse for 40 years. Nursing was a calling for Thelma. She was passionate about her work. Most of those years she worked as an ICU nurse at Marietta Memorial and at Hilton Head Hospitals. There will be a graveside service at the Beaufort National Cemetery on May 17, 2017 at 10:00 AM. A celebration of Thelma’s life will be held at the First Baptist Church of Hilton Head on June 24, 2017 starting at 11:00 AM. Memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Hilton Head Missionary fund.
