Thomas F. "Ted" Haupt
Ted, a faithful Catholic, entered eternal life on September 21st, 2013.
Ted was born in Wilmington, DE on May 15th, 1929. He graduated from Archmere Academy and Loyola College of Maryland. He received his Master's degree in Spanish from Middlebury College, VT., after serving as a lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. He subsequently taught Spanish for thirty-five years at Towson University in Maryland, retiring to Hilton Head, SC in 1990, with his loving wife, Judy. Ted was an avid history buff and Civil War scholar, and he served as a guide at Gettysburg Battlefield Park for five years. His passion for history and teaching led him to lecture on the Civil War and the Irish Troubles. Ted excelled in many hobbies. Ted and Judy became members of the Country Club of Hilton Head where he won many golf titles and tournaments, including hitting seven holes-in-one. Ted also enjoyed playing bridge and chess with friends, and dancing.
Ted was preceded in death by his infant twin brother, John Edward, his parents Lewis H. Haupt and Margaret Sweeney Haupt, sisters Marjorie Haupt Lucas, Jane Haupt Keogh, Isabelle Haupt Dudley and brother Lewis Haupt.
He will be greatly missed by his wife Judy and family including daughters Susan Haupt, Isabelle Haupt Brooks and husband Joe, Ann Louise Buttion and husband Tod, and son Scott Johnson and wife Michele.
Grandpa will be missed by Ashley Taylor Haupt, Kelley Isabella Haupt, Matthew Haupt, Thomas and William Brooks, Ellen Johnson and Jimmy Buttion. Uncle Ted was loved by many nieces and nephews.
Judy and Ted were members of St Francis by the Sea Catholic Church where Ted served as an usher for fifteen years. They joined St. Gregory the Great when they moved to Hardeeville in 2008. He was a regularly scheduled Adorer for many years, and visited Life Care nursing home weekly.
Visitation will be at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Rd., in Bluffton, SC. From 6-8pm on Thursday, September 26th, to include a prayer service at 7:30pm.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Francis by the Sea Catholic Church on Beach City Rd., Hilton Head SC., at 10:30 am on September 27th, 2013.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Ted's name to Saint Gregory the Great Forward in Faith Campaign, John Paul II Catholic School or your favorite charity.
