Thomas Welch Haydon

Thomas Welch Haydon, age 80, of Okatie, SC and formerly of Nicholasville, KY died Sunday, October 18, 2015 at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. Mr. Haydon was born on September 11, 1935 in Nicholasville, KY, the son of the late Frank Taylor Haydon and Elma Collinsworth Haydon. He attended the University of Kentucky and ultimately graduated from the University of Cincinnati. He began his career in sales with Ryerson Steel where he worked for twenty years before starting Cardinal Metals in Pounding Mill, VA where he served as President. Civically, he was a member of the Lions Club and the Elks BPO Lodge in Bluefield, WV. Outside of work and civic involvement, he enjoyed being with his family, Kentucky Wildcat basketball, playing golf, spending time at the Keeneland racetrack and a good glass of Jack Daniels and water. Mr. Haydon is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Marlene Schell Haydon; children, Michelle Haydon of Lexington, KY, Jennifer Haydon Norman (Doug) of Lexington, KY, Scott Haydon of Raleigh, NC, and Stephanie Haydon Ahlers (David) of Fort Mitchell, KY; sister, Juanita Haydon Baker of Nicholasville, KY; brothers, James Taylor Haydon (Nadine) of Mullins, SC and Hilary "Gibbs" Haydon (Judy) of Minneapolis, MN; and grandchildren, Nicholas Norman, Emily Norman, Will Ahlers, and Haydon Ahlers. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 333 Fording Island Road, Bluffton, SC 29909. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the American Heart Association or John Paul II Catholic School in Ridgeland, SC. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 333 Fording Island Road, Bluffton, SC 29909.
