Thomas Ludlow Papst

Thomas Ludlow Papst (Tom) of Bluffton, South Carolina, passed away at home on October 26, 2015 at the age of 85. Tom, the son of the late Ira Hearst Coen and Frances Ludlow Papst, was born on June 14, 1930 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. After graduating from Dartmouth College in 1952, he married his loving wife of 62 years, Joan Snider Papst, formerly of Washington, Pennsylvania. During his lengthy career with the Army and Air Force Exchange Service, he and his family lived in Texas, Virginia, Georgia, Germany and South Korea. Upon retirement, he and Joan lived in Dahlonega, Georgia before moving in 2004 to Sun City, Bluffton, South Carolina, where he spent many happy hours kayaking, biking and swimming when not enjoying cruises with Joan. Tom is survived by his wife; his sister, Harriet Hougland of Virginia; his son, Thomas Ludlow Papst, Jr. of Georgia; his daughters, Susan Papst Bowman of Virginia, Linda Papst de Leon of California and Kathryn Papst Belk of Virginia; grandchildren Kathryn Bowman of Utah; Amanda Lucal of New Zealand; Laura Bowman of Virginia; Michael Papst of Georgia; Daniel de Leon of California; Alexandra Belk and Nathan Belk of Virginia; Lindsey Papst and Hannah Papst of Georgia; step-grandchildren Brooke Dixon of California and Christian Leon of California; nieces Carol Leed of Colorado and Mary Padgett of Virginia; and nephew Charles Hougland of Virginia. On Saturday, October 31, 2015, there will be a viewing at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Road, Bluffton, SC from 11-1 and a memorial service at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Jasper Animal Rescue Mission, www.jarmission.com, 1352 Carters Mill Road, Ridgeland, SC 29936.
