Thomas J. Shuttleworth

August 7, 1940 — July 3, 2022

Early Sunday morning on July 3, 2022 my beloved brother, Tom, passed on to be with our Lord.

Tom was born in Brooklyn New York on August 7, 1940, the son of the late Thomas A. Shuttleworth and late Elva Hartley Shuttleworth.  A year after graduating from J.M. Wright Technical School as a draftsman, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. for 4 years.  After his honorable discharge he worked as an electrical and mechanical draftsman/designer for various companies.  He obtained an associate degree in engineering and retired as a senior mechanical engineer.

In 2005 he moved to Sun City Hilton Head in SC and enjoyed the many club activities.  He especially enjoyed running his railroad set up in his garage, growing many types of plants in soil and hydroponically.  He was keenly interested in our robotic findings on Mars and magnificent aspects of God’s universe.

Tom’s favorite quote was: “Every day is a good day.”

Tom is survived by his sister Marion E. Shuttleworth of Bluffton, SC, his niece Elizabeth M. Anselmo of Stamford, CT and his stepdaughter, Karin Y. Roberts of Fort Lauderdale, FL.  Our younger brother Richard A. Shuttleworth died on May 21, 2020.

Tom’s ashes will be interred at The Church of the Cross in Bluffton, SC at a later date.

Our family wishes to thank the loving care he received at the Veteran’s Victory House in Waterboro, SC, PH Healthcare Hospice (especially Melody), the Savannah Georgia HBPC palliative care group who took care of his in-home care and The Church of the Cross Clergy, Stephen ministers and others that helped Tom on his road to see our Lord.

Donations in Tom’s memory can be made to your choice of charities.

Inurnment:  Church of The Cross; 3:00 PM; Monday; August 8, 2022.
