Thomasena Mitchell

Mrs. Thomasena Mitchell was born on September 18, 1939 to the late Elvira Fields and the late Mr. Sam Carswell, Sr.

She received her education in the Jasper County Public School system.

After completing her education, Thomasena began working at the Port Royal Clubhouse and later at Harbor Towne Grill on Hilton Head Island, SC as a cook.

Thomasena was married to Mr. Willie Mitchell for 46 years. This union produced seven children.

On Sunday, June 19, 2016 God dispatched his angels and Thomasena was given her wings and she ascended into Heaven.

She leaves to cherish her legacy of love five sons, Solomon Carswell, Savannah, GA, Franklin Gray, Greenville, SC, Phillip Mitchell, and Shawn Mitchell (special friend Sandra Johnson), Bluffton, SC; Willie Rice, Ridgeland, SC. Two daughters, Antoinette Rivers (preceded her in death) and Edith Scott (Larry), Charlotte, NC; six grandchildren, Anthony Carswell (Kenya), Bluffton, SC, Tonya Carswell, Sumter, SC, Sandpree Porter (Jason), Charlotte, NC, Willie Rice, Jr and Tyler Rice, Ridgeland, SC, Aaliyah Mitchell, Bluffton, SC; four sisters, Earlimae Bishop, Ridgeland, SC, Jamesetta Scott, Delores Elleby, and Cynthia Scott-Nayo, Connecticut; one brother, Mervin Carswell, Bluffton, SC; three brothers-in-law, Tyron Brockington, Savannah, GA, Retired Master Sergeant Joseph Mitchell, Leesville, LA, and Albert Mitchell, Bluffton, SC; two sisters-in-law, Pearl Mitchell, Bluffton, SC and Shirley Mitchell, Savannah, GA; three wonderful children that she lovingly participated in raising, Leon Magwood (Alvina), Savannah, GA, Amber R Gray and Zachery Frazier of Bluffton, SC; a very special niece, Lillian Chisolm, Levy-Limehouse, SC; two godchildren, Georgia Fields and Sharon Fields, Bluffton, SC; a very special circle of friends, Anna Jane Mitchell, Mary Lee Fields, Lullamae Mack, and Mariah Fields; six great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, June 25, 2016 at the First Zion Baptist Church, Bluffton with burial in Lowcountry Memorial Gardens, 90 Simmonsville Rd., Bluffton. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Friday, June 24, 2016 at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Rd., Bluffton.
