Tyler Gardner Gault, Sr.

Tyler Gardner Gault, Sr., 88, of Beaufort, South Carolina, passed away on July 29, 2026. A proud United States Coast Guard veteran, devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, craftsman, and friend, he lived a life defined by service, faith, hard work, and deep devotion to his family.

Born in Attleboro, Massachusetts, Tyler was the son of Raymond J. Gault and Frances G. Gault. He was raised in Foxboro, Massachusetts, where he graduated from Foxboro High School. Following his education, he answered the call to serve his country and spent six years in the United States Coast Guard, an experience that reflected his strong sense of duty, discipline, and honor.

After his military service, Tyler returned to civilian life and built a career marked by skill and reliability. He worked at Rea Craft Printing in Foxboro, at Mansfield Machinery, and later as a plumber on Cape Cod and in Beaufort, South Carolina, where he earned a reputation as a hardworking and trusted craftsman known for his integrity, precision, and willingness to help anyone in need.

Tyler was also a man who pursued lifelong learning and passion beyond his work. He earned both his pilot license and his captain’s license, accomplishments that reflected his love of aviation, the sea, and the freedom of exploration. These achievements stood as a testament to his determination, discipline, and adventurous spirit.

A man of many talents and passions, Tyler found joy in fly fishing, woodworking, vegetable gardening, beekeeping, and birdwatching. He was a lifelong Boston Red Sox fan. His faith was central to his life, and he served faithfully as a deacon at Meadowbrook Baptist Church on Lady’s Island, South Carolina. Among his proudest accomplishments was his craftsmanship in building 1/4 scale aircraft, including a Curtiss JN “Jenny” and the Spirit of St. Louis, several of which were donated to the museum at Triple Tree Aerodrome. His work reflected both his precision and his lifelong love of aviation. 

Tyler is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Joan Potter Gault, a lifelong partnership built on love, faith, and unwavering commitment. Together they created a strong and loving family, and their bond served as the foundation for generations that followed. He is also survived by his children, Vincent Gault (Sandra) of East Falmouth, MA; Vicki Gault (Michael Lienhop); Tyler G. Gault, Jr.; and Laura Lee Gault; his brother, Robert J. Gault of Beaufort, SC; seven grandchildren, Nicholas Gault (Brianna), Emily Heape (RJ), Christopher Hightower (Scout), Timothy Hightower (Iris), Hannah Lienhop, Eric Gault, and Michelle Hightower; and eight great-grandchildren, Jasmine, Jade, Onyx, Lucy, Cyrus, Delilah, Devina, and Simon, along with many nieces and nephews who will forever cherish his memory. He also leaves behind extended family and dear friends who were blessed to know him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond J. Gault and Frances G. Gault, and his daughter, Sherri G. Hightower (Willie Ray) of Beaufort, SC. 

Tyler Gardner Gault, Sr. will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his service to his country, his devotion to family, his craftsmanship, his faith, and the joy he brought to all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, August 30th at 4:00 p.m. at Meadowbrook Baptist Church on Lady’s Island, South Carolina. Attendees are encouraged to wear Boston Red Sox attire in his honor or Atlanta Braves attire in memory of his daughter, Sherri.
