Varner Catherine Malphrus Cleland

Varner Catherine Malphrus Cleland, 72, passed away Thursday, July 25, 2013 at her home in Ridgeland, S.C. She was born in Ridgeland, SC on February 08, 1941 to the late Orland J. and Hannah Lee Boyles Malphrus. She was the Comptroller of Cleland Construction and Cleland Utilities. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, J. Eugene Cleland of Ridgeland, SC; two sons, Jessie Lee (Beverly) Cleland and Avery E. (Janet) Cleland, all of Ridgeland, SC; three brothers, Dale (Effie) Malphrus of Okatie, SC; Dwaine (Becky) Malphrus and Larry Malphrus, all of Ridgeland, SC; two sisters, Anne Long of Ridgeland, SC and Jeanette Crosby of Okatie, SC; many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Myron David Cleland; sisters, Glondel Walters and Joyce Lightfoot. Graveside services will be held at 4:00 pm on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at Gillisonville Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3:30 pm until the hour of service graveside. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, chapter of one's choice. Sauls Funeral Home of Ridgeland is assisting the family with their arrangements.
