SmithRidgeland, SCVera June Gillikin Smith, 90, widow of Charles William (Bill) Smith, died Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at Coastal Carolina Medical Center in Hardeeville, SC.She was born on November 30, 1920 in Hamlet, NC to the late D. D. Gillikin and Vera June Smith Gillikin.She was the former Executive Director for Hardeeville Chamber of Commerce; former Bookkeeper for the Island Packet Newspaper and Pinckney Island Plantation and an Airplane Mechanic in Decatur, AL during WWII; member , Edgar Mole Chapter 239 Order of the Eastern Star in Hardeeville, SC and she was a member of Okatie Baptist Church.She is survived by her sons, Charles Louis (Bubba) Smith (Rosalind) of Bluffton, SC; Randy W. (Vivian) Smith of Ridgeland, SC; daughter, Alice L. (Frank) Boyd of Hardeeville, SC; two brothers, Sydney James Gillikin of Foley, AL; Harold Dean Gillikin of Spokane, WA; one sister, Minnie Ruth G. Goding of Toccoa, GA; six grandchildren, June Marie Bess, Coulleen Louise Wise, Charles H. Smith, Christy Lynn DeCosta, Randy W. (Bill) Smith, Jr.; Nathan Wayne Smith and eleven great grandchildren.Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, May 19, 2011 at Maye River Baptist Church Cemetery in Bluffton, SC.
