Virginia Kathryne Huntley Adair passed away in her home June 1at t he age of 94 She was born in 1921 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the oldest of three children of Kathryne and Carl Huntley. Her family moved to Shaker Heights, Ohio in 1923. Mrs. Adair attended Flora Stone Mather College of Western Reserve University (now known as Case Western Reserve University). It was there she met her future husband who was a medical student at Western Reserve. They were married in 1944 and eventually moved to Lorain, Ohio where Dr. Adair assumed his father’s medical practice. In 1974, they bought a home in Sea Pines and became permanent South Carolinians in 1983. Both were dedicated golfers. Mrs. Adair was active in the Women’s Golf Association of Cleveland and at one time was tournament chair of the HHI Golf Association. Her volunteering activities began in the early 1980’s working at the Children’s Center. She was an active member at the First Presbyterian Church, ushering, and working at the Day School as Katy Robertson’s “girl Friday”. She was a cashier at the Bargain Box for twenty five years then a volunteer Nursing Secretary at Volunteers in Medicine in Medical Records a position she dearly loved. She hoped to make fifteen years there! It is difficult to say which of her hobbies she enjoyed the most- golfing, needlepointing, or playing bridge, most likely the latter! She needlepointed many rugs; one is a copy of an Indian Mogul scene, (the original hangs in the Fine Arts Museum in Boston). Her version won an outstanding award in an art show at the Cleveland Museum of Art. Mrs. Adair is survived by four sons, Robert L. Jr (Nancy) of Hagerstown, MD, Gary Waite (Claire) of Buffalo Grove, IL, Scott Nelson (Pamela) of Tecumseh, MI, and Daniel Huntley of Grapevine, TX. Dr. Adair preceded her in death in 1988; a sister Joanne Jubell in 1974, and brother Carl Huntley Jr. in 2007. Also surviving are twelve grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be given to Volunteers in Medicine, the First Presbyterian Church, the Bargain Box, or Compassus Hospice.
