Vyna Lee Mumford

Vyna Lee Mumford, 85, of Hardeeville, SC, wife of the late John Russell Mumford, passed away July 10, 2026 at her home.

Vyna was born February 6, 1941 in Alma, GA to the late Hansel Cason and Pearl McCarthy Cason. Her life was a testament to her unwavering trust in the Lord. Each day began in her prayer room, where she faithfully sought God's presence. She never relied on an alarm clock because she firmly believed that God would wake her exactly when she needed to rise, and He always did. For over fifty years, Vyna was a cherished member of First United Pentecostal Church in Savannah, GA. She faithfully served the Lord and loved her church family with her whole heart.

Vyna also dedicated part of her life to teaching at Eastgate Christian Academy, where she invested in the lives of young people with patience and compassion. She believed in the value of every individual, even when they struggled to see the good in themselves. She found joy in life's simple pleasures. While television held little interest for her, she loved reading, especially the Holy Bible, which she treasured above all other books. She also delighted in a friendly game of Scrabble.

Vyna was an exceptional cook and expressed her love through every meal she prepared. Until her beloved husband passed away, she faithfully cooked breakfast, lunch, and dinner for him every single day. Her Southern home cooking became legendary among family and friends. She was especially known for her unforgettable salmon gravy and grits, and her homemade biscuits, baked fresh three times a day.

Perhaps one of the greatest blessings of Vyna's life was the love story she shared with her husband. They met in Brunswick, GA, when she was just fifteen years old. Together they built a beautiful life founded on faith, devotion, hard work, and unconditional love.

Vyna will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished. We rejoice in knowing that she has heard the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant.”

Vyna is survived by her daughter, Glynda Luann Mumford White (David, deceased); son-in-law, Tim Wright; sister, Margie Cason; grandchildren, Jessica Toi White Frantz, David Adam White, and Charles Pagnini, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Destiny White, Caleb Frantz, Quillan White, Sadie White, Liam White, Bailey Pagnini, and Kelsey Pagnini; and great-grandson, Samuel Sikes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Judy Ann Mumford Wright; step-father, Qwen Merlot; brothers, Leonard Cason, John Cason, Ray Cason, and Larry Cason; and sister, Donna Mae Cason.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon, Saturday, July 18, 2026 at First United Pentacostal Church, 1735 Grove Point Rd, Savannah, GA. The family will receive friends beginning at 11:00 am until the time of the service at the church. Burial will follow at 3:00 pm at Bluffton Cemetery.
