Wallace Gabriel Norde
Wallace, age 92, of Bluffton, SC, formerly of Edgewater, Fla, entered the hall of heroes on December 27, 2013.
Born in Veszprem, Hungary on March 29, 1921 to parents Irma and Laszlo Nozdroviczky. Wally came to the United States with his family and Step Dad, world renowned Master Painter Ernest De Nagy, in 1932 and lived in New York City. He proudly served in the United States Army in World War II and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant from Fort Jackson, SC. He also served in the United States Air Force. He retired from Exxon Mobil Corporation in 1986 where he worked as a technical editor. He also taught automotive technology at the Delehanty Technical School in New York. Wally was a proud member of the Society of Automotive Engineers [SAE] and was recognized by the society for his award winning contributions to Motor's Auto Repair Manual for the section he wrote on transmissions. He enjoyed his retirement years doing the things he loved. As an avid swimmer, he loved the beaches of Florida. He was also a member of the Boat Club in Edgewater and worked part time at the local boat marina.
Beloved husband to the late Virginia Anne Norde. Devoted father to Virginia Davis and her husband, Peter, of Bluffton, SC; Mary Sommers and her husband, Joseph, of Hackensack, New Jersey; and, Bernadette Glasser and Murray Klein of Jamestown, Tenn. Proud grandfather to Peter Jr. and Stacy Davis, Kristin and David Hazlett, Jennifer and Pete Greco and Joseph Sommers, Jr.; and great-grandfather to Nathan, Alex, Austin and Hannah Davis, Sebastian Hazlett, and Peter Joseph Greco. He will be remembered always for his love of family, his sense of humor, his kindness, and his generosity.
A memorial service with military honors will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
