Walter Bruce Hartner, M.D., died on Wednesday, May 28, 2014, in Charleston, South Carolina. Bruce dedicated his professional life to caring for others. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh, School of Medicine in 1962. He was a resident at St. Francis General Hospital and trained in psychiatry at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic. He was an officer in the United States Public Health Service and worked at Dixmont State Hospital, Mercy Hospital, and the three VA Hospitals of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Additionally, he was a clinical assistant professor at the University of Pittsburgh.
He was born in 1936 to Walter L. Hartner and Marian McIsaac Hartner of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He is survived by his wife, Miriam Sergay Hartner, M. D., his son, Bob, and daughter, Susan, as well as nieces Debra and Stephanie. Bruce will be remembered for his love of family and his passion for the game of golf.
He was buried on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, following a private family ceremony on Thursday, May 29, 2014.
