Walter Alfred Petersen

Walter A. Petersen of Okatie, South Carolina, formerly of Massapequa NY, passed away on June 1, 2021.

Walter was born on April 15, 1926 in Freeport, NY to the late Henry and Emma (Bolte) Petersen.  He is also predeceased by two brothers.

Walter was a lifelong member of St. David’s Lutheran Church in Massapequa.  He served as both an usher and proud member of the choir.   He also served in the United States Navy.

Walter and his wife Dorothy Ann (Hood) Petersen were married for 68 years.

He loved to travel, especially to Cape Cod and Amish Country in Pennsylvania. After 30 years, he retired from Wonder Bread as a truck driver. He then enjoyed a career as a school bus driver.

He is survived by his wife Dorothy; four children, William Peterson (Gloria), Nancy Ferruggia, Janice Petersen, and Carol Presicci (Anthony); 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation:  Tuesday; June 8, 2021; 3:00 – 5:00 PM at Sauls Funeral Home in Bluffton, SC (90 Simmonsville Road; 29910).

Funeral Service:  Wednesday; June 9, 2021; 10:00 AM at Sauls Funeral Home.

Interment with Military Honors:  Wednesday; June 9, 2021; 1:00 PM at Beaufort National Cemetery in Beaufort, SC.
