Warren D. Falwell, 97, of Bluffton, SC passed away Thursday, January 22, 2026 at Hilton Head Hospital, Hilton Head Island, SC.
Born in Omaha, NE on May 16, 1928, to the late Ralph Falwell and Evelyn Haning Falwell, Warren was raised in Kansas City, KS. He was an outstanding athlete and scholar in high school, lettering in track and basketball. He represented his school at Boys Town and was Class Valedictorian. He proposed the class motto be “Get All You Can While You Can,” and while not adopted, it became his personal motto for life.
He graduated from Kansas State College and soon started a long career with Aetna Life & Casualty Company. With his first wife, Leona Chauvin Falwell, he moved his growing family from Kansas City to St. Louis, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, and finally Hartford, CT. Warren was a firm believer in equal opportunity and advancement for women and minorities, and mentored many people starting out their careers.
Warren was a true outdoorsman, or as he would say, “I’m a hunter, trader, trapper.” From camping out with his children, teaching them how to fish and enjoy nature, to showing his wife, Mary, how to flush geese in the field—he did it all: Fishing—fresh, salt, and ice water; hunting— deer, pheasant, turkey; clamming and oystering. If that wasn’t enough, Warren became a rather good golfer, boater and scuba diver.
Warren’s life was rich with wonderful friendships, and he leaves a legacy of people who will cherish his memory.
Warren is survived by his wife of 42 years, Mary Downes Falwell; his daughter, Cathy Ann Falwell (Peter Mirkin); sons, David Bruce Falwell and Douglas Warren Falwell(Saowanee Page); his sister, Sandra Garrett; grandson, Alex Mirkin (Kaitlin Wauchope Mirkin); granddaughter, Mae Mirkin; and two great-granddaughters, Ivy and Piper Mirkin.
A celebration of life will be held in June in Fairhaven.
