Wendy Burchfield, age 70, of Bluffton, SC, passed away on April 14, 2026, after a brave battle with cancer. Throughout her illness, Wendy remained grounded in her strong faith in Jesus Christ, finding comfort and peace in the assurance of eternal life.
Wendy was born on November 23, 1955, in Harrisburg, PA. After graduating from Lancaster Mennonite High School, she went on to study at Bluffton College in Ohio.
Following college, Wendy held several positions before finding her true calling with the AVON Company. Beginning as an “Avon Lady,” she quickly rose through the ranks into management roles where she was highly respected. She was passionate about inspiring people to be the best versions of themselves.
Wendy later transitioned into real estate in the Hilton Head area of South Carolina, where she truly found her niche. She thrived on setting, meeting, and surpassing goals, both professionally and personally. Real estate became her passion, and her clients were always her top priority. Outside of her career, especially in her younger years, Wendy explored countless crafts, eventually mastering sewing and cooking. In time, cooking and entertaining became some of her greatest joys.
In 1978, Wendy became the mother of Kelly, who quickly became her world. She lovingly shared her passions for crafts, cooking, and entertaining with her daughter.
Wendy married Chuck Gunsallus in November 1997. Together, they shared many adventures and created a lifetime of cherished memories.
Wendy deeply valued the friendships she built through her church, her work, and her community—treasured relationships that meant so much to her, second only to her love for her family.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Jean Amstutz, and her father, John Burchfield. Wendy is survived by her husband, Chuck Gunsallus of Bluffton, SC; her daughter, Kelly (Armand) Sulter of Whitehall, PA; her beloved grandchildren, Noah and Grace Sulter of Whitehall; her sister, Dawn (Bill) Hamman of Medina, OH; her nephews, Chad and Marc Hamman; and her stepfather, Fred Amstutz, all of Ohio.
