Wesley Chase Bray Jr.

Wesley Chase Bray Jr., 90, of Hilton Head Island, SC passed away peacefully on January 18, 2021. A native of Rhode Island, he was born on April 23, 1930 to the late Wesley Sr. and Mary (Emery) Bray. He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary (Whaley) of 66 years, and his 2 sons. Mark of Bluffton, SC and Yale (Karen) of Hilton Head Island, SC as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister Lois Salisbury.

Wesley attended North Kingstown, RI High School where he excelled in the classroom and in multiple sports. On a football scholarship, he went to Michigan State University and later graduated from the University of Rhode Island. While at Michigan State, Wesley was drafted in the Korean War and served in Army Intelligence. This led to 3 years in Germany working for the U.S. State Department.

Wesley worked for the Travelers Insurance Company in Hartford, CT before starting a 30 plus years career with The Principal Financial Group (The Bankers Life Company) as a group representative in Cleveland, OH. There he rose to executive level management running several offices including Detroit, New York, Chicago, and Boston.

Throughout his life and in retirement, he enjoyed traveling with his wife, golfing and boating. Wesley remained an avid reader and a zealous Michigan State and New England Patriots fan until his very last day.
