Dr. Wesley Perry Sauter of Bluffton, South Carolina died peacefully in his sleep at Hospice Savannah, December 9, 2016. He was 91 years old. He is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Marie Joy Lowes Sauter. He is survived by his sister Hetty Auburn and his five children; Jim Sauter(Tammy), David Sauter(Peggy), Nancy Sauter, Amy Hill(Ted), Melinda Sauter(Jeff Cohen) and seven grandchildren, Jim(Lauran), Charlie(Catherine Helming-Sauter), Jeannie Sauter, Katie and Emma Hill, Hannah and Elizabeth Cohen. He was born in Heuvelton, NY on September 23, 1925 to John and Mabel Perry Sauter. He was married to Marie Lowes, the love of his life on June 14, 1945 in Rochester, NY. He graduated from Monroe High School, University of Rochester (BS) and Syracuse University Upstate Medical Center (MD). His medical career included General Practice in several rural communities of New York (Cincinnatus and South Otselic) where Marie, a Registered Nurse assisted him with patient care in offices attached to their home. He specialized in Anesthesia and practiced for 35 years including serving as Chief of Staff at St. Luke's Memorial Hospital in Utica, NY. The family resided in Clinton, NY where he was active at Clinton Central School, volunteering his time and expertise providing school physicals and as physician to athletic teams. Dr. Sauter served in the United States Navy in World War Il aboard the aircraft carrier USS Belleau Wood and the Korean War, where he served as a medic. He was also a member of Otselic Valley Lodge #659 for 58 years. Wes loved canoeing, sailing, and hiking, spending summers with his family in the Adirondack Mountains.
He and his wife will be laid to rest this spring in Upstate New York. A memorial service is planned and will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Maranatha Farms or the hospice agency of your choice.
