William L. Hamel, age 74, passed away peacefully at his home in Bluffton on October 21, 2015.
He is survived by his sons William Hamel and Steven Hamel, daughter in laws Cayla and Erin; grandchildren Ben, Rose, Dominic and sisters Judi Mason and Donna Hennessey.
He served in the Navel Reserves and the US Air Force. Bill attended Penn State and Yale University and was a graduate of Tristate University in Angola, Indiana. He retired from the Eaton Corp.
Bill was known for his active involvement and volunteer work with the Low Country Institute on Spring Island, the Savannah Wildlife Refuge, SCAN and Deep Well. Bill was a popular teacher at USCB in the OLLI program, as well as teaching in the Road Scholar program at Palm Key. He was the past president of the Low Country Master Naturalist Association.
A Celebration of his life will be held Saturday November 14, 2015 at 10:00 am at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 351 Buckwalter Parkway, Bluffton. The family requests memorial donations be made to your favorite environmental organization in memory of William L. Hamel.
