William J. "Bill" Maddox, 82, of Bluffton, SC died December 6, 2014 at NHC Bluffton.
He was born in New York City in 1931 the son of the late Maude Isabel and William J. Maddox.
He was a 1950 graduate of Tabor Academy in Marion, MA. In 1952 he enlisted in the US Navy and proudly served his country for 4 years. He went on to attend Brown University in Providence, RI from 1956-1958.
In 1958 he married Sydney H. Maddox and in 2014 they celebrated 56 happy years of marriage.
He enjoyed a successful 28 year career with IBM and retired in 1987.
Bill was extremely patriotic, a great outdoorsman, an avid golfer and an accomplished Skeet Shooter. In 1995 he was elected to the CT Skeet Shooting Hall of Fame and received the J.T. Brainard Award for dedicated service to CT Skeet Shooting. After moving from CT to Bluffton in 1994, he continued shooting competitively at the Forest City Gun Club in Savannah.
He was a dedicated volunteer at the Hilton Head Computer Club, served as secretary for the Rose Hill Men's Golf Association and proudly volunteered at the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum.
He is survived by his wife Sydney H. Maddox of Bluffton, SC; son William J. Maddox, III of San Francisco, CA; son John H. Maddox (Sonja) of Morris Plains, NJ, and a daughter, Tracey A. "Tammy" Kost (David) of Nashua, NH.
He was the proud grandfather of Kyle, Dylan, & Kaitlyn Kost and Olivia, Thomas, and Mark Maddox.
Bill's family wishes to express its eternal gratitude to the nurses, CNAs and staff of NHC where he received so much loving care during his 2 ½ year stay.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of the Lowcountry or Memory Matters.
A memorial service will be held at a future date.
