William Andrew (Bill) Burcin

William (Bill) Andrew Burcin passed away on the morning of August 3rd in Bluffton, SC. Bill valued his family most in his life and enjoyed a wonderful 61 year marriage with his wife, Catherine who currently resides in Bluffton, SC. Together they raised four children, Lynne (David) Thomas of Marriottsville, MD, William Jr (Laura) of Beaufort, SC, David (Lexi) of Westlake, CA and Michael (Renee) of Hilton Head, SC. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Bill was a devout Byzantine Catholic with a strong faith. He was born in Hazleton, PA on September 28, 1929 and was a graduate of Hazleton High School and Pennsylvania State University, where he met and fell in love with Catherine. He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1948-1952. He began his career with IBM in Owego, NY after graduating from Penn State and went on to a 33 year career at their facilities in Owego, Huntsville, AL, Gaithersburg, MD and Bethesda, MD. Upon retiring from IBM he spent 10 years in law office administration in both Maryland and Atlanta, GA. Bill loved sports and excelled in baseball, lettering for two years at Penn State. He continued playing both softball and tennis well into his late 70s. Bill cherished all his friendships and helping those in need. His combination of compassion and wit drew a smile on most everyone who met him. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church on Monday, August 8 at 10:00am. Following the Liturgy, burial will take place at Beaufort National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial gifts be made to St Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 333 Fording Island Rd, Bluffton, SC 29909.
