Mr. Billy, is what most people called him, was a vital part of Ridgeland History during his 76 years. Raised in his parent’s home, he was an active participant in his grandmother’s farm grocery/ filling station and boarding house.
Billy was born in Ridgeland, SC on January 16, 1944 to the late C J Twitty and Margaret L. Thomas Twitty.
As a teen, he also worked for the post office. Twitty’s BBQ was run by his father and continued under his care. After High School he married Jeanette Daring and they produced two fine sons. His career experience included Wayne Line Furniture; General Motors in Michigan; and back home to Malphrus Construction, Turkey Hill Plantation and D & R Auto.
Billy was active in sports as a teen and into adulthood in football, auto racing rodeo antics and semi pro football. He was an ever present participate in Thomas Heyward’s football program, little league and was a Commissioner on that program before retiring. He was Ridgeland’s Santa Claus in their Christmas Parade for several years.
During his “Cowboy” years, he directed Turkey Hill Plantation, to include live stock operation, timber management, hunting and fishing and customer entertainment and relations.
In 1999, he married Wanda Whittle, a childhood crush, and spent time traveling together.
He was a dedicated believer in God and had been a Deacon and teacher at Gillisonville Baptist Church always focusing on the youth. Billy was a loving, caring and generous man who most people adored. He went home to our Father with peace in his heart.
Billy is survived by his son, William Brandon Twitty (Kendra) of Ridgeland and C. J. Twitty (Karin) of Bluffton, SC; his sister, Kathy Twitty Goen of Ridgeland, SC; his grandchildren, Kate and Bryar Twitty and Julian Pendergrass and step child, Chris Yarbrough.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, November 21, 2020 at Gillisonville Baptist Church. Masks are suggested. In lieu of flowers please consider memorial donations to Compassus Hospice, 10911 North Jacob Smart Blvd., Suite 1, Ridgeland, SC 29936.
