William George Harting

July 22, 1951 — July 1, 2022

William George Harting passed away at the age of 70 at his home in Bluffton, South Carolina on July 1, 2022, following a brief illness.  Bill was born July 22,1951 in Annapolis, Maryland to George Lincoln Harting and Harriet Cuthbertson Harting.

Bill proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1969-1973. Following his honorable discharge, Bill went to work for the U.S. Navy in Annapolis. As part of his apprenticeship program, he attended classes at Anne Arundel Community College, where he met the love of his life, Angie Diane Stearns.  Bill and Angie married in 1975 and were the proud parents of Robert and Laura, whom they raised in Severna Park, Maryland.  Bill relocated to the Navy Yard in Philadelphia in 1999, following the BRAC closure of NSWC in Annapolis.  In 2009 he retired and happily relocated to Sun City Hilton Head, where Angie’s parents, Ellis & Vonnie Stearns, lived.  After visiting SCHH for so many years, he couldn’t wait to become a Sun City resident.  Bill loved being part of the Sun City Chorus, Sun City Community Theater, Sun City Veterans, the Woodworkers Guild and the Purrysburg Fitness Center “Early Birds.”

Bill genuinely loved people and had a gift for making friends feel special and included. Bill was a loving husband, father and grandfather, adored by his family. Bill is survived by his wife of 46 years, Angie; two children: Rob of Chester, Maryland and Laura of Bluffton, South Carolina; three grandchildren: Ryan Harting, Liam and Maggie Vreeland, and his loving in-laws: Vonnie Stearns, Mark (Rose) Stearns, Dan (Kim) Stearns; nieces Brittany and Shayna and nephew, Matthew.  His parents, George and Harriet Harting, and sister, Louise Harting Sledz predeceased Bill.

On Monday, July 11 th , the family will receive visitors at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Road, Bluffton SC 29910, beginning at 10:00 a.m. followed by the funeral service, led by Pastor Kevin Duff of Island Lutheran Church, at 11:00 a.m. Following the service, burial with full military honors, will take place at 1:00 p.m. at Beaufort National Cemetery.
