William Andrew Hodge died peacefully on December 20, 2024 at NHC Healthcare in Okatie, South Carolina. Bill, with his twin brother, Robert Joseph, was born on February 28, 1938 in Indianapolis, Indiana. The twins were two of eleven children of Jack and Augusta Hodge.
As all of his siblings, Bill attended Saint Philip Neri Grade School, then attended and played football at Cathedral High School, but received his diploma from Scecina High School.
Bill had a wide variety of work experiences including sales duties, tavern and restaurant management, farm management and National Park management, plus school bus driver in his retirement years, in a wide range of locations from Indiana to Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Wisconsin, California, and Texas. His activities allowed him to travel extensively, including participating in the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona, Spain (of which he was extremely proud). He was always ready for new adventures and took advantage of each opportunity.
Bill served in the United States Marine Corps with a wide range of duty assignments including a tour in Hawaii where he played for the Marine Corps Football team.
Besides his parents, Bill was proceeded in death by his ex- wife Caroline (Sis) Anderson Hodge Weaver, his daughter Carrie Smith, brothers Paul Richard, James Jack, Charles Reynolds, Robert Joseph, Michael Kenneth and Stephen Patrick plus two sisters Mary Evelyn Frey and Carol Ann Lewis. He is survived by his daughter Katrina Hodge (Julie Gallutia), son-in-law Kevin Smith, grandchildren Amber List, Anderson Smith, Sam, Gus, George and Mary Claire Willis, great granddaughter Jocey List, brothers Thomas Edward in Fairfield, California and John David in Evansville, Indiana, plus his very special friend, Rosalie Erwin in Bluffton, South Carolina.
As many of us, Bill struggled with his spirituality, drifting from his Catholic upbringing during his life, but firmly grasped his faith again in his last years.
A private cemetery ceremony and remembrance gathering will be held at a later date.
