William €Œbubba” Holmes

William “Bubba” Holmes was born March 1, 1936 on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina to the late Mary Frances Lawyer and the late Willis Holmes, departed this life on July 24, 2013 at his home in Bluffton, SC surrounded by his family and friends. He received his early education in the Hilton Head Island public school system and after moving to New York City with his sisters Beatrice and Carrie, who preceded him death in 1993, he continued his education in the New York City public school system. William was nurtured at St. Catherine of Genoa Roman Catholic Church and also attended St. Angela Merci. He later attended NY Community College and Maryland State College. William entered the U.S. Army in 1958 and was later Honorable Discharged in 1961. In 1959 he married Ocie Lee Bennett. He worked as a General Store Manager in the supermarket grocery industry for many years and later retired to Chesapeake, VA and subsequently moved to Bluffton, SC. He loved to enjoy life and showed that, through his many travels with family and friends abroad. William was a member of the Sun City Democratic Club, Computer Club, Garden Club and Pinocle Club. William also enjoyed playing poker with his Monday night and Tuesday night group and he also enjoyed the game of golf. He was an avid NY Giants and NY Yankees fan. William leaves to cherish his memories: surviving and loving wife Ocie Holmes of 53 years; son, Anthony Holmes (Thania Perez); daughter, Yolanda Holmes; daughter, Sandra Crowder (Kenneth) ; sisters, Beatrice Brown (Charles Kirby ) , Virginia Holmes Forman, Janie Holmes, Bertha Gamble ; brothers, Leroy Holmes, Willie James Holmes, Anthony Riley; aunts, Viola Jones, Ruth E. Germany; sister-in-law; Diane Cummings; brother-in-law; Dojie Bennett; nieces Robin N. Lockett and Pia Chaffin, Katherine Bennett, Kia Parker, Latisha Brown; grandchildren Dantae and Justin Crowder; godson, Idris Saunders; devoted friends, Lamont and Martha Saunders & Family, Agnes Fenton, Sarah Brown and many loving cousins, great-nieces and other relatives and friends.
