Dr. William B. Humphrey

Dr. William B. Humphrey, age 78, of Bluffton, SC and formerly of Liverpool, NY and Big Moose Lake, NY died Sunday, May 14, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center in Savannah, GA. Dr. Humphrey was born on November 23, 1938 in Oklahoma City, OK, the son of the late Kathryn and Clifford Humphrey. He was a graduate of the University of Buffalo and completed Dental School in 1962 at the University of Pennsylvania. Following his formal education Dr. Humphrey served in the Dental Corps of the United States Army, being honorably discharged as a Captain. He then began his dental practice in North Syracuse which he operated for nearly 40 years. He was a member of the Liverpool Rotary Club, was an Honorary life member of the Stillwater Club of Canton, and while summering in Big Moose Lake was an active participant with the Big Moose Community Chapel. William loved spending time with his family and was especially fond of the occasions when all of his grandchildren were together at Big Moose. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed all outdoor activities, including gardening, boating, and golfing. Dr. Humphrey was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Humphrey. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Marlene R. Humphrey; daughters, Susan Milchman (Scot) and Cheryl Vertrees (Matt); son, Shawn Humphrey (Lisa); and grandchildren, Maia, Ella, Willow, Emerson, Holden, Will, and Kate. The family will be receiving friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, May 25, 2017 at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Road, Bluffton, SC 29910. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 26, 2017 at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 31 St. Gregory Drive, Bluffton, SC 29909. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the American Heart Association or the Big Moose Ambulance Fund.
