William Cary Mattox

William Cary Mattox, 68, died Monday, February 18, 2008 at his home in Bluffton, SC. He was born in Tallahassee, Florida on January 17, 1940. He was the son of the late Julian Wilson and Mary Elizabeth Hickman Mattox.He owned the Mattox Agency for many years. He was a nationally known artist. He was one of the founders of the Bluffton Artists Guild and he was a member of the Bluffton United Methodist Church.He is survived by his son, Michael William Mattox of Bluffton, SC; one daughter, Leslie Mattox of Bluffton, SC; one brother Lee Mattox of Charleston, SC; and three grandchildren, Julian Mattox, Duncan Peeples, and Mason Peeples.He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Stewart Mattox, and one grandchild, Cary Mattox. Graveside Services will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, February 22, 2008 at Bluffton Cemetery, Bluffton, SC.In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial gifts be made to Hospice Care of the Lowcountry, P.O. Box 24158, Hilton Head Island, SC 29925-4158.
