Bill Mock, age 76, of Bluffton, SC, passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at his home with his beloved wife, Makinzi, and daughter, Shannon, at his side.
Bill was born in Sylvania, Georgia on September 8, 1947, to his parents William Mock and Francis Friese. Bill was a lifelong member of the construction industry having learned his carpentry and construction skills from his father with whom he worked with until his father’s death. Bill might have argued that he was born into the business as he proudly shared that he broke his first hammer on a sidewalk at the age of 3.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Makinzi, to whom he was married on August 2, 1980, and his daughter, Shannon Mock-Bunting (Bubba), siblings Karen Decker (Butch) and Kristina Adams, grandchildren Kyle Carter (Kaila)and Grayson Carter, and great grandchildren Blair Carter and Morgan Carter.
Bill graduated from Jenkins High School in Savannah in 1966. He enlisted soon thereafter in the USAF ANG on July 16, 1966, and went to basic training at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi. He was a lifelong patriot!
From 1981 until 1993, Bill operated his own construction business that specialized in framing under the name of The WILMOC Company. During that time Bill and Makinzi moved from Savannah to Bluffton. The WILMOC Company completed a number of projects for J.T. Turner Construction, and Bill joined forces with J.T. Turner Construction to oversee a large contract to frame dozens of homes in the startup Del Webb Community, Sun City, in 1993. Bill remained employed with JTT Construction until the company closed in 2015.
At that point, Bill was Project Manager over an uncompleted project for Wesley Monumental United Methodist Church. He agreed to continue to work directly for the Church until the completion of that project, which was one of many projects that he managed for the Church over more than a decade.
In October of 2015, he joined forces with a young company, West Construction Company, and was assigned the new construction of the Bouhan Falligant law offices overlooking Forsyth Park. The project won numerous architectural and construction awards and was an important catalyst for the initial growth of West Construction. At West he was elevated to a position of overseeing all construction project management, and he held that position until his final illness.
Bill was a devoted and loving husband, father & grandfather. He was a fervent patriot and a man of deep faith in his Lord as you would well know when you entered any of the numerous onsite job trailers where there were displays of his love for God and Country.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, August 15, 2024, at Wesley Monumental United Methodist Church, 429 Abercorn St., Savannah, GA.
