William G. Osler, lovingly known as “Billy O,” passed away on February 26th, surrounded by the love of his family, leaving behind a legacy defined by devotion, loyalty, and unwavering support for those he cherished most.
Bill was born on March 7, 1940. He was the beloved husband of 64 years to Barbara S. Osler, his partner in every sense of the word. Together, they built a life rooted in love, family, and community. He was the proud son of Martha Moore Osler and Gilbert Christy Osler, and was preceded in death by his brother, Gerald Osler, and his daughter, Theresa Osler Wiggins.
A devoted father, Bill leaves behind his children: Christine Osler, Jeffrey Osler, and his wife, Jehane; and Liz Osler Dowe and her husband, Adam. Nothing brought him greater joy than being “Pop” and the self-proclaimed “#1 Fan” to his six grandchildren: Bailey and Caroline Osler; Alex Wiggins Olivetti and Drew Wiggins; and Ridge and Macey Dowe. Whether on the sidelines, in the stands, or cheering from afar, Pop’s encouragement was constant and heartfelt.
Bill spent the first 40 years of his life in South Jersey, where he made his mark as a standout athlete at Audubon High School, playing football, basketball, and baseball. He went on to play college football at The University of Tampa, carrying with him a lifelong love of sports and teamwork.
In his professional life, Bill built an impressive 50-year career in real estate, first as a successful sales professional and later as a respected broker. His integrity, work ethic, and gift for building relationships earned him the trust of clients and colleagues alike.
Forty-five years ago, Bill and Barbara made Hilton Head, South Carolina, their home. There, he continued to pour his energy into the community, becoming a passionate supporter of youth sports. From hockey, baseball, and golf, Bill believed deeply in the lessons sports teach - discipline, teamwork, resilience, and heart. He could often be found on the sidelines, offering a thumbs-up, a word of advice, or simply his steady presence.
“Billy O” will be remembered for his competitive spirit, his steadfast loyalty, and his deep love for family. Above all, he will be remembered as a husband, father, and “Pop” whose greatest victories were the lives he helped shape and the love he gave so freely.
His legacy lives on in every game played, every cheer from the stands, and every family gathering filled with laughter — just the way he would have wanted.
